Stress: a word most people know almost too well. It’s a moth-eaten grey blanket covering our lives. It's the monster under the bed; the elephant in a rather crowded room. It's an all-together nasty specimen of our worst fears and worrisome thoughts, intent on bringing us down in any venture we attempt.
And we, in the shattering confusion caused by this ruthless cutthroat, have elected him onto the throne of our hearts. He rules there, unchallenged in his authority over us - sitting comfortable and easy, adorned with his scepter of anxiety and crown of restlessness.
The question here is, why?
He's not a good ruler, that's for sure. Stress is given way too much power in our lives, because we let it. Is there not a better candidate out there to take up residence in our hearts and minds?
Are we really content to be mercilessly governed by this barbarian?
You see it everywhere you go, in the faces and stance of people passing you by, bent over by the weight on their minds. You hear about it constantly: work-place stress, student exams, rough family life, rocky relationships...the list goes on and on. And most people are so used to the shackling chains around them that they never think to resist.
I urge you to break free of the hold this stress might have on you. Remember that though this might seem like an uphill battle right now, there is no feeling quite like reaching the summit; and when you get there, you can look out over all of the hills and valley's traversed by you and realize that in the end, they were all overcame.
Many of life's failures are those who did not know how close they were to success, when they gave up. -Thomas Edison
